What is Energeia?

Energeia is an ancient Greek word Aristotle used to describe the process of becoming. It describes how potentiality becomes actuality. It is also the root meaning of “energy” in the sense of an intrinsic, inwardly motivated activity and not the kind of energy you get from energy drinks or as a resource to extract.
Modern life pulls hard on our attention, leaving most of us perpetually busy, distracted, or fragmented. Energeia serves the need for experiences and relationships where meaningful human attention can be cultivated. Attention & practices that alert a human to these inner sources of energy, aliveness, and meaning.
Philosophy made practical.
Derick Deal is dedicated to making philosophy a practical, living practice for people and organizations.
He's a certified Focusing teacher and practitioner. Focusing is an embodied, experiential practice for discovering what philosopher and psychotherapist Eugene Gendlin called life-forward movement: a way of paying attention to your experience that can lead to creative insight and action.
Derick holds a BA in Philosophy from the University of Virginia and an MA in Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness from the California Institute of Integral Studies.
Energeia’s work builds on philosophies and practices that Understand human experience to be a frontier, not an ‘on-off’ biochemical switch, and thus an inexhaustible source for discovering new sources of life and direction.
